What is Equal Pay Day?

Equal Pay Day originated in 1996 by the National Committee on Pay Equity (NCPE) to bring awareness to the gap between wages paid to men and women. In essence, March 14 symbolizes how far into the year women must work to earn what men made in the previous year.

The Accounting MOVE Project is dedicated to working toward better pay equity for women by annually examining how employers hold managers accountable for pay equity, and how employers are addressing equity gaps. To bring further attention to this issue, I write an article for Accounting Today on this topic, including some of the causes of pay inequity and what firms can do to start measuring and addressing it. Feel free to share this with your firm leaders and reach out to me if you want additional information.

I also encourage firms to participate in MOVE this year to see how you compare with other firms and receive best practices in your confidential report. You can sign up here.
